New £20 note

The Bank of England launched new £20 notes in March of 2007, using a design featuring Adam Smith the Scottish philosopher and economist. These notes are set to replace the notes featuring the Worcestershire born composer Sir Edward Elgar that were launched in 1999. The new notes are the same weight as the old notes so they will cause no problems with Tellermate cash counting equipment. There is no need to count the old and the new notes separately on your equipment and Tellermate would recommend that where possible bundles of £20 notes counted on the Tellermate are a mixture of old and new notes.

In an update in the Bank of England Annual Report 2009, the Bank reported that at the end of February 2009, the new design of £20 note  accounted for 69% of the £28.1 billion of £20 notes in circulation. The Bank expect that the old version of the £20 note will remain in circulation for at least one more year.
